Blue Water Fishing in Senegal
Ok, so you might have done Blue Water fishing on the East Coast of Africa, and you might even have fished on the West Coast of Africa before and, done some 'so called' blue water fishing from The Gambia but, believe us, you won't have done anything like this before - and certainly not for the price that you can do it for, if you book through Hooked On Gambia!
In desperate need of a holiday after 4 years in The Gambia, Bob and Fi set off in their car to do some fishing in Senegal in early summer 2006. And, they were sooooo amazed at what was on offer up there, they felt that they needed to share it with everyone else! And, so they've put together two amazing 'felixble' fishing packages from 2007, in partnership with like-minded professional anglers in Senegal, that incorporate transfers from Banjul to Senegal, B&B accommodation in Senegal and, they hope, good blue water fishing!
The 'blue water' season in Senegal runs from mid May to October (see Dakar fish calendar below), which coincides with the best inshore and creek fishing in The Gambia, potentially offering the more serious angler some great fishing sport. All this, combined with a chance to see more of both countries during a one day transfer (max. 2 day transfer if you wish to fish out of St Louis on the Senegal / Mauritania border) between the two destinations.

Hooked On Gambia is offering two blue water fishing destinations in Senegal. The first, just north of Dakar (Senegal's capital city) and only a 10 minute transfer from Dakar International airport (should you wish to fly direct), fishing out of the small tourist resort area of N'Gor. The second, is the old French colonial town of St Louis on the Senegalese/Mauritanian border.

Although these two destinations are historically (and therefore architecturally) as different as chalk and cheese, the fishing out of both is absolutely superb. Both destinations offer 9m long open fishing boats, constructed in N'Gor to western standards, equipped with fighting chairs and the best blue water fishing equipment, and powered by 150hp Yamaha engines (with a minimum 40hp auxiliary engine), these boats offer very fast, stable and therefore safe, fishing platforms. Believe us, the water off St Louis is rough, and if you think the sand bar at Denton Bridge is bad, you haven't seen anything like the sand bar at the mouth of the River Senegal! We know, we did it - and the boat, professional skipper and linesman took it all in their stride!
N'Gor operates tag and release fishing in accordance with the IGFA rules governing blue water fishing and St Louis are looking at introducing tag and release in the very near future.
Hooked On Gambia's Senegal Blue Water Fishing packages start from £700 per person, based on 2 people sharing. This includes return transfers from The Gambia to N'Gor by car (including Banjul-Barra ferry), 4 nights bed and breakfast accommodation in a 3 star hotel in Senegal and 3 days blue water fishing onboard one of the aforementioned boats complete with all fishing tackle, rods and reels and a complimentary 'French-style' picnic lunch.
Blue water out of N'Gor can be as close as 30 mins. whereas when fishing out of St Louis last June, we didn't find blue water for 60 miles! That said, we timed our fishing in St Louis to coincide with the St Louis International Jazz Festival and Bob did hook up, fought and officially caught a 250kg+ Blue Marlin after a 3 hour fight, and yet, whilst fishing out of N'Gor, with tens of Sailfilsh right around the boat, neither of us hooked up and there wasn't much available in terms of good jazz!! The catch record at both destinations however, is impressive, with as many as 100 Marlin or Sailfish caught per boat per season! And, what's more, when fishing with Hooked On Gambia, you will not be paired up with other anglers on board, thereby increasing your chances of fighting your own fish of a lifetime.
Hooked On Gambia's 'flexible' blue water fishing packages permit you, the angler, the opportunity to put together your own african fishing holiday. With a choice of flight destination (Banjul or Dakar), blue water fishing available in Senegal out of N'Gor and/or St Louis and the option of adding excellent sport fishing in Gambian inshore waters. To take advantage, all you need to do is Contact Us with you preferred itinerary (number of days fishing, destinations, dates etc.), and we'll get back to you with availability and prices.
