HOOKED ON GAMBIA BOATS & EQUIPMENT

Hooked On Gambia's (flagship) boat 'Lady Rita' is an 18 ft dory giving maximum stability. She's powered by a 40hp outboard so that we can get you to the marks quickly and comfortably. If required, shelter from sea spray and that ever present sunshine is afforded by a small cuddy up forward, which also houses a portaloo in case you are caught short.

'Lady Fiona' is a 2 year old 17 foot open Whit pleasure boat with space for 2 anglers and again is equipped with a 40hp outboard. She is an absolute delight in the creek system and, as she causes very little wake and is incredibly fuel efficient, she fits in perfectly with our  aim of providing sustainable fishing in The Gambia.

Both boats are captained by Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) certified competent skippers, are in excellent condition and  hold current GPA seaworthiness certificates. And although both are licensed to carry 4 passengers, in order to ensure your comfort on board we recommend no more than 2 anglers per boat per fishing trip and 4 persons per pleasure cruise.

Both boats have access to the following:-

Experienced and GPA certificated

British & Gambian skippers

Fishfinder
Well maintained rods & reels VHF's & Mobile Phones
Tackle Lifejackets
GPS & Compass Public Liability Insurance
On board refreshments and entertainment (courtesy of the skippers) are optional extras!

FISHING TACKLE

At Hooked On Gambia we recognise the importance of having well-maintained rods and reels in order to catch and land bigger fish.

The following is a selection of the fishing equipment that we have available: -

4 no. 50lb Boat Rods 6 no. 4/0 size Lever Drag Reels
8 no. 30 lb Boat Rods 8 no. Multiplier Reels
6 no. 15 - 30lb Boat Rods 4 no. Fixed Spool Reels
4 no. Spinning Rods 3 no. harness and butt pads
4 no. Beach Casters And, lots of line and terminal tackle.....

If however you wish to bring your own rods, reels and tackle you may want to consider the following: -

Generally rods should be in the 20lb to 30lb class with reels to match (uptiding gear is suitable) scaling up to 50lb gear for Tarpon fishing. You can scale down to 12lb class and spinning gear for creek fishing but it is not unusual to pick up fish in excess of 30-40lbs even here!

For tackle you should bring a selection of hooks (up to 6/0), swivels and lures and, if you want to go trolling, various coloured rapalas (including the Mann's Strectch Deep Divers for the larger Barracuda mooching around in deeper water). Wire traces are a must for some species and heavy mono 60lb-100lb line is recommended for Tarpon fishing.

A butt pad can also save unsightly bruising, and a nasty injury, when you hook the big one!
