ABOUT US

Bob
Broxton, the charismatic figurehead of Hooked On Gambia, was born in
the UK in 1958 with a love of angling. He cut his first teeth fishing
fresh water rivers and lakes in the North of England before moving to
Swansea in 1977 where he discovered the lure of sea fishing in the Bristol
Channel. Bob managed to find the time (in between running his own
businesses) to organise his local fishing club's activities, as well as
running a private fishing boat out of Mumbles, and leading sea fishing
trips for young offenders on local charter boats. Deciding to take early
retirement, and fed up with the British weather and declining fish stocks
around the British coastline, Bob set his sights on The Gambia where the
fish are much bigger and better looking!

| Dembo Drammeh was more or less
born on a Bakau Bonga boat in 1964. In spite of a scholarship to attend St
Teresa's School, Dembo could be found hiding amongst the fishing nets on
his father's boat on most school days (smuggled on board by sympathetic
fishermen), much to his father's consternation. Nevertheless, St Theresa's
loss was Hooked On Gambia's gain when he joined the company in December
2003, bringing with him years of experience of fishing the waters of the
lower Gambia River and the Gambian coastline in local pirogues as well as
sport fishing boats.

Born in 1970, Fi Broxton's love of fishing (and her husband) started when Bob announced that he would be taking her beach fishing on their first date! In spite of this, they married in 1991 and Fi has followed her 'Fisherman' on various fishing holidays around the world even overcoming her sea sickness to fish on board his boat in the Bristol Channel. Fi now acts as Hooked On Gambia's informal company secretary, webmaster, 'chief meeter and greeter', chauffeur and sandwich maker. |
| And finally we'd like to
'Welcome On Board' Sanna Sarr!
Sanna is the latest addition to Hooked On Gambia and started working with us in December 2006. Born(e) of good Bakau fishing stock in 1962 (although he claims to be 49 years old????) Sanna received all his education onboard fishing boats. Having first mastered the art of netting and longlining on local wooden pirogues, Sanna then went to work for Gambia Sportfishing for a period of 2 years where he learned the art of fishing rod and line and communicating with 'strangers' - i.e. overseas anglers! Since leaving their employ, Sanna acquired his own dug out canoe - which he still uses for handlining on his days off! |
